OLD TIMERS FISHING REPORT
FRIDAY
THE LATEST   UPDATE   By Del Baldwin
APRIL 11, 2014

Old Timers Bass tournament

This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do!

It is with a very heavy heart that I have to report to all of you.
Yesterday, APRIL 10, 2014, Tommy Brombaugh was killed in a boating accident.
It happened on Watts Bar lake. He was fishing in the Old Farts tournament.

Tommy and his partner Gerald Jean were coming out of a sheltered cove.
They turned into the wind.
The wind caught their boat and flipped it over killing Tommy and injuring Gerald.

Gerald is in the hospital in Chattanooga recuperating from his injuries.

I know with me and all of you, we wish to extend our deepest condolences to Tommy's wife Pat and their entire family.

We wish Gerald a speedy and full recovery.
All the details of what happened exactly are still a little sketchy.
We may never know exactly what happened to cause this terrible accident.

In the 29 years since we started the Harrison Bass Club
this is the first serious accident we have had.

This will conclude the Old Farts series

Please send replies or any questions to my new email address

Old Timers Bass tournament

It's only 3 weeks until the spring tournament.
I still don't have any idea how many boats we are going to have.
We have been given a gift from the recreation department.
I sure would like to know how many of you are coming down.

Some of you have e mailed me and let me know.
But, alot more of the regulars that come most of the time have said nothing.
It would be fine if you all just showed up and supprised me.
I'm too old for supprises so please give me a heads up if you are planning on coming or not.

Thanks Del
Oh ya !!!!!

PS The dates are Tuesday, April 13, the 14th, & Wednesday April the 15th.
Just in case any of you forgot.

THE LATEST  UPDATE   By Del Baldwin
February 24, 2010
Its only about 7 more weeks until the spring tournament.

Its been a long hard winter. We had a small taste of warm weather last week end.
It was finally back up in the 60s. April 13 14 & 15 are the date.
some of the same people figured that they couldn't make it on the March dates.
Therefore, we are going back to the old schedule of the second week in April.

I sent everyone e mails and asked them to get back to me if these dates were a conflict of schedule. I gave them until the first of the year.

Matt will be back in the store after the first of March.
Any one wanting to make reservations at the lodge can do so.
You can call the resort now and it will forward to Matts cell.
The number is 423 365 9521

The Crappie tournament will be on Tuesday and the bass will be on Wed and Thur.
The lake should be on the way up to summer pool by then.
If we have any more rain it will be all the up by then.
It's been up and down all winter and should level off by then though.

Looking forward to seening all of you again.
I've had a couple of the guys that haven't been here for years.
They called me this winter and are planning on coming.
If the fishing is as good as it has been the past couple of years, we should have some good sack come in.

See you in April
Del

Thanks and good fishin'

The 2008 Spring tournament on Watts Bar lake

The 2008 Spring tournament will be held, Tuesday April 8, Wednesday April 9,
and Thursday April 10 out of Lakeside Resort
DETAILS: After deciding to hold the tournament earlier,
some of the same people figured that they couldn't make it on the March dates.
Therefore, we are going back to the old schedule of the second week in April.

I sent everyone e mails and asked them to get back to me if these dates were a conflict of schedule. I gave them until the first of the year.

No one has replied so the April dates are now set.
I sincerely hope this is not going to be a problem for any one.
I am going to call those for whom I don't have e mail addresses.
I'm asking everyone to help me get these dates out.
Please give the info to any one you might think would like to come down and fish with us.
Thanks and good fishin'

OLD TIMERS FISHING REPORT
Tuesday
UPDATE   By Del Baldwin
October 16, 2007
Wednesday, October 10 and Thursday, October 11, 2007 Watts Bar lake

After blanking the first day Del Baldwin and Mike Wood came in with the only 5 fish limit of the tournament.   Every one said they caught alot of fish just under the 15 inch limit

Del and Mikes 5 fish weighed 12 lb 11 oz.
They also had the big bass with a 4 lb 12 oz large mouth

Second place went to John and Mike Farley with 10 lb 2 oz

Third place was John Deak and Jerry Walters with 9 lb 11 oz

Fourth place was Gerald Jean and Charlie Dye with 6 lb even

Fifth and the last team in the money was Dave Hoskins and Pete Miller

Crappie fishing was not any better
On Tuesday the 9th, 6 boats went out for a 5 hour Crappie tournament
Only 3 boats had fish and only 11 fish were weighed in

John Deak and Jerry Walters were the winners with 4 fish that weighed 5 lb even

With water temps still in the high 70s the fish are still deep.
We are in an extreme drought.
The TVA has held the lake almost at summer pool this summer.

We are having some cool nights now and the water is starting to cool down
As is gets colder, the fish ought to start moving in to the shallows.
Fishing will get a lot better

I dont have the dates for next years events.
However, I will have them posted as soon as I can get dates that will accommodate the majority of the teams that come down every year

The winners were Charlie Turner and Dave Hoskins with 10 that weighed 11 lb 7 oz
All together they reported catching over 30 keepers.

2nd place went to Del Baldwin and Mike Wood with 10 that weighed 10 lb 6 oz
Tom Brombaugh and his lovely wife Pat were 3rd with 8 lb 6 oz
Big crappie honors were split by Turner, Hoskins, Baldwin and Wood.
They had a 1 lb 6 oz fish

Wednesday and Thursday the weather continued to warm.

The winners were Carl Begley and Jeff Lynch with a 2 day catch weighing 15 lb 5 oz
2nd place went to Mike Wood and Del Baldwin with 15 lb 3 oz

On the 2nd day Mike and I started back a little early because of the wind.
We stopped on a little piece of bank in Whites Creek. In the last 10 minutes, while I held the boat off the bank with the big motor, Mike cast a Carolina rig and hauled in our biggest fish of the day

This was the difference between 2nd place and out of the money.

After leading the first day Randy and Tim Hull came in 3rd with 14 lb 4 oz 4th place.
The last team to draw a check was Dave Rauch and Don Burchett with 13 lb 1 oz

FALL OLD TIMERS
Saturday
BASS TOURNAMENT
October 14, 2006
TOUGH !!!! That's the only way I can explain it. Rain, cold weather, and windy.

When two of Delphis finest fisherman come in two days in a row without a keeper . . .
Thats TOUGH !!!!!
Every one caught small fish, the keepers were not so cooperative.
Twelve boats and 24 fisherman. Only 22 keepers were caught in two days.
Not one 5 fish limit was brought in. Three boats never weighed in a fish both days.
Four boats only had one keeper for both days.
  • First place goes to . . .

But . . someone will always come in with enough to win bragging rights.
This time it was John Deak and Jerry Walters.
For both days they had 7 fish that weighed 13 lbs 14 oz
  • Second place
with 3 fish that weighed 8 lbs 13 oz. was Mike Wood and Del Baldwin.
Mike also had the big bass of the tournament with a 4 lb 6 oz Small mouth.
  • Third place
was Rick Deak and Gerald Jean with 8 lb 5 oz
  • Fourth place
and the last team to draw a check was Wayne Stolich and Roy Brewster with 7 lb 5 oz
The Crappie tournament was on Tuesday before the bass tourney.
Eight boats participated and we cleaned and ate 72 Crappie.
With what we had left over from the spring, everyone had plenty to eat.

UPCOMING SPRING OLD TIMERS
Wednesday
BASS TOURNAMENT
April 26, 2006
"SPRING OLD TIMERS BASS TOURNAMENT"

Del Baldwin weighing in here.
As has been the rule for the past several bass tournaments
We have had a crappie tournament held the day before.
Tom Broumbaugh has sponsored this from the beginning

On April 18, from 8 am until noon, 7 teams participated in the crappie tourney.
Each team is allowed to weigh in their best 10 crappies
We had 70 crappies weighed in and with the extra ones we cleaned 103

Tom and Fred had 10 that weighed 12 lbs even.
Charlie Turner and Dave Hoskins came in second with 10 that weighed 9lb 2 oz
Del Baldwin and Miike Wood had 10 for 8 lb 5 oz

This was by far the best crappie tournament we have had.
It looks like it will be even better
next year by the number of fish that are just short of keeper size this year.

The Bass tournament held on the 19th & 20th wasnt quite as impressive.
Only 11 boats participated in the 2 day event.

Jeff Lynch and Carl Begley were the winners with a 2 day total weight of 22 lb 15 oz
They were the only team to weigh in a limit on the first day they had 5 fish for 14 lb 12 oz.
On day two they came in with 2 fish for 8 lb 3oz
The big bass for 2 days was a real nice 5 lb 15 oz largemouth First place
Big bass was good for $ 570.00

Second place went John Deak and Dave Rauch with 15 lb 10 oz.
Third place was Bill Speck and Arnold Clemmons with 13 lb 6 oz
Fourth place and the last team to draw a check was Gerald Jean and Charlie Dye.
Their fish was 12 lb even
I am sure the price of gas has had a lot to do with the small turnouts.
I would like to let everyone know that it is a good time
to see some of our old buddies from work.

We do have a lot of fun. I would like to get more people down here this fall.
The dates for our fall tournament will be October 10, 11, & 12

The crappie tournament will be on Tuesday from 8 am until noon.
The bass tournament will be on Wednesday and Thursday
Both days will be from safe light until 3 PM
Looking forward to seeing more of you this fall
Good fishin'   Del
